Day II
The second day in Lisbon went way smoother than the first - thanks to much needed sleep. (Look at those smiles!)
We went out in search of a place to eat and decided to take the Elevador de Santa Justa.
David is completely fearless and has always been totally okay with doing backflips, jumping over fences and walking on roofs. So going to the top of the elevator was a cake walk for him and I knew he wanted to check it out. I, on the other hand, have a huge fear of heights and had no desire to see the top.
David ended up convincing Henry to go up with him, but he froze on the bottom of the stairs and didn’t want to go up without me. As it turns out, for Henry, I will climb up sketchy narrow spiral staircases all the way to the top. Yes, he had to hold my hand. Yes, it took me forever. My palms get crazy clammy when I’m scared and my legs get weak and wobbly, but Henry was patient and didn’t care. We made it to the top - so not worth it in my opinion, but I’m glad Henry liked it.
We stopped for some sandwiches at Paul’s (such good olive bread sammies!) and started our journey to Pasteis de Balém.
We took a tiny break at a park that had a little playground so Henry could have some fun. It was a nice break for all of us - it was so hot outside!
Finally we got our precious pasteis de nata. They were just as good as I remembered, but I think I have to say Manteigaria just might possibly make better ones.
It was a nice day. We took it easy since we have two little ones with us and I honestly think that’s the secret to traveling with kids. Don’t plan everything out too much, don’t overbook yourself and play things by ear. Being flexible and patient is definitely key.
