Monarch Butterflies

So I guess the month of October kicks off the monarch butterfly time in our area and we really wanted Henry to be a part of it.

We first took him to Pacific Grove to see the Butterfly Parade. That was a complete disaster. We arrived right when they were cleaning up. WE MISSED IT. I take complete fault for that though, because I insisted we stop for quiche at my favorite little spot, Parker-Lusseau. It was worth it and I regret nothing.

After the lack of parade, we took a long uncomfortable walk to the Monarch Sanctuary. When we got there - NO BUTTERFLIES. Henry did a pretty good job pretending to be one though. We also spotted five monarchs flying around a tree on our way back to the car. Was it worth the drive? I don't know but Henry had fun.

I was still super pissed that I didn't get any pictures of these effing butterflies. So a couple of days later we took him to Natural Bridges to see some there.

Things were looking wayyyyy more promising.

Then at LAST we found the motherload of monarchs!! I felt like I could finally die happy. Not really, but I was super pleased.

Now look at all of my butterfly pictures.

LOOK AT THEM!

The trip to Natural Bridges was most definitely worth it. It was a gorgeous walk even without the butterflies. I hope we remember to bring him back next year! Maybe we'll even try the parade again and be there on time. Who knows?!
